Received his M.S. degree from Mechanical Engineering (ME) Department of İstanbul Technical University in 1969, worked as research associate at the Applied Mathematics Unit of TÜBİTAK (the Scientific and Technological Council of Turkey) for one year, got his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the ME Department of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA in 1972 and 1978, respectively, before joining the ME Department of the Middle East Technical University (METU) in the same year, where he served as a faculty member upon his retirement in 2014. He spent his sabbatical leave at the ME Department of the University of Connecticut, USA in 1988-1990, first year as a Fulbright Scholar and the second year as a visiting faculty member while teaching part time at the Hartford Graduate Center of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He served as the Associate Chair for Academic Affairs and Personnel of the Mechanical Engineering Department in 1990-1992, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Personnel of the School of Engineering in 1992-1995, and member of Senate representing the School of Engineering in 1998-2004, all at METU. During his tenure as the Associate Dean, two engineering programs at METU were evaluated by ABET in 1994, a first in Turkey and four more programs in 1996. He served as a technical consultant during 2015-2021 at Roketsan, a leading defense company in Turkey. He currently teaches at the ME Departments of METU and Bilkent University. Bülent E. Platin's research interests are in the areas of system dynamics and control; modeling, control and disturbance rejection in the positioning of mechanical systems; mechatronic systems; nonlinear systems; and optimal control. He supervised about 50 graduate theses during his tenure at METU and has over 100 papers. He served as the founding Chair of MÜDEK ("Engineering Evaluation Board" then) in 2003-2004, past Chair in 2005-2006, member of the Accreditation Board of MÜDEK in the 2007-2008 term, and the secretary member of the Executive Board of MÜDEK in 2007-2009, 2009-2011, and 2011-2013 terms. He has served as the team chair in 22 MÜDEK evaluation teams between 2003 and 2021 and as the co-chair in one other occasion. He served as a educator in 12 evaluator and 15 institution training workshops. He has been serving as a member of the Advisory Board of MÜDEK since 2015.
